Dictionary Please
I used a word last night that apparently I have never used before in Jenn's presence because it caused her to start laughing her head off. And then she accused me of making up words. I assured her that it's a word, a slang word, mind you, but a word that is commonly known. She adamantly disagreed with me. I adamantly disagreed with her. And so it goes.
I tried to help my case by searching on-line dictionaries and slang phrase books, but I wasn't able to prove that this word is common knowledge. I don't know where I first heard this word, but I'm sure I'm using it properly. I am enlisting the excellent language skills of our friends and family back home to help me out.
The word is GITCH. If anyone has a definition of this word, please comment on the blog to prove I didn't make it up and that people back in Canada actually use it.
As a side note, next week will mark our 5th month anniversary and from what I recall this is the biggest disagreement we've had so far as husband and wife. And that's not much, so I'm happy to announce that all is well in the world of marriage.

Oh, Hahaha!
Perhaps, Darin, this is the first time the generation gap is presenting itself to us (after all, it has been pointed out to us that 8 years is a REALLY long time) I still think you made it up.
Never heard of it. What, as far as your concerned Darin, does it mean?
OK, I use gitch all the time. Especially when referring to Chad because that's all he ever wears around the house.
Underpants!
GITCH - from an old pair of tighty whiteys to a nice pair of silk boxer shorts, from a skimpy American flag thong you may see in a Will Farrell SNL skit to a pair of cheek huggin' hot pants on the cover of MAXIM - it's all GITCH!
Chavez is the one guilty of walking around our house in said state of undress. :)
Oh, I see how it is. It is just the Cook Brothers that know this word and have taught their wives thinking the more it is used the bigger chance they can pass it off as a real word. Should I buy into it?? Darin doesn't like his new name.
Unfortunately, no. I remember exactly who I learned this word from - my residence neighbours in university. It's not just a Cook invention!... (though we both know there are plenty of those, too...)
I am in total agreement with the proper usage of the word. I believe that I first heard it from my grandfather (Dad's Dad), and still hear it from time to time. Darin, don't be ashamed...let the gitch wearers of the world unite!
